I landed in CDMX for the first time Feb 2025, and this is where I stayed for my first week or two. It was. a great choice. Mexico City is a huge thing to take on, but I had to get work done, and I wanted to have a quiet location. Coyoacan is perfect for this. A great mercado, with great food, lots of shops, squares, street life, but it feels like a neighbourhood for Mexicans, almost like staying in a small town, that's got great urban standards for food and service. What I have to say though, concerns how wonderful the people who own and run this hotel are. About a week in, I started feeling immense pain, which I suspected, and it turned to to be an attack of acute appendicitis. This was late at night, and I had nobody to rely on, no idea where I'd find a hospital. The family who run this place totally stepped up to help me. The son I spoke to not only figured out where to tell me to go, not only insisted on waiting while my Uber arrived: when it never showed up, he realized how serious it was, drove me to th hospital, translated what I couldn't cover at the desk. helped me understand the insurance issues, stayed at the hospital until well into the middle of the night. So much concern and genuine help. During my three day stay in the hospital, the owner came by at least four times to check up on me. When I was dicharged, she came and picked me up; she found another room for me that avoided having to climb stairs; moved my stuff out of my original room, which they'd kept closed up, ever though my reservation had ended, ensured I was comfortable, and even brought me my first couple of meals, without asking for anything, as I was getting on my feet. The hotel is cool, and the hosts even cooler. The walk to the centre of Coyoacan is pleasant and there's always stuff to look at. Nice staff, good cafes nearby (El Beneficio became a regular), and when I moved on, it was with the feeling that my stay in Mexico City was blessed, when it could have felt damned.... thanks to all at Calle Berlín!
